He examines the origins and aftermath of the issue of Kashmir and the Rann of Kutch, the implications of the Soviet Union’s close relationship with India and Pakistan’s with the US. He also discusses the movements for regional autonomy in Pakistan and what bearing these have had on Indo-Pak relations.
Wright’s argument is that, because both sides’ attitudes are so deeply ingrained, neither side has been in a position to act in the best interests of the peoples of the subcontinent as a whole.
